This dress comes in many different variations, but everyone is wearing some type of button down dress and/or skirt this summer and for good reason. It’s casual and comfortable and has a lot of style to it. The stacked vertical buttons are elongating and flattering to everyone.
I found this dress at LOFT and really like the flair styling to it and the stripes. Fits TTS . They also have it in white and denim, but I really like the stripes.
When looking for a button down dress, here are some things to think about.
Since it’s almost summer, I wanted a light weight fabric and a loose fit. Some styles fit more tightly than others. The dress is rayon with a very light weight cotton lining so it has the look of linen, but doesn’t wrinkle as easily. I talk about my love for linen here .
Some I tried on were cut pretty low in the front which wasn’t flattering on me. Now that I’m over 40, I find that dresses that cut straight across the chest and are very low make me look more more flabby, less sexy. Also, if it’s too tight under the arms, it creates the dreaded under arm boob.
I like that it flares out at the waist. I find that this type of style looks better on me than a straight cut.
This dress is incredibly versatile and is definitely casual. Here are some different outfits I put together.
Of course, the dress looks great on it’s own, but I especially like it with this white jean jacket and something white on the feet whether it’s espadrilles like in this picture or cute little sneakers. I think keeping it all very light really fits with the white monochromatic trend that’s so popular.
The white wrap bracelet just completes the look perfectly (if I do say so myself). You can still get 30% off with code: THISMAINLINELIFE30.
Do you like how the plants behind me are in perfect focus? My face, not so much. Hubs is still getting the hang of this photography thing.
I love a traditional denim jacket with this and I think this look would work well with either navy or white shoes. I’ve been wearing these cute Sperry boat shoes for the past 2 years and I still love them. You could also wear a small navy cardigan with this dress, especially a cropped length.
Here are some other options with slightly different neck lines.
Though a lot of these dresses are very casual, I have seen some variations that I would deem work appropriate. Here are some options that look a little more corporate and would be great for the office.
I love a cute little summer dress that you can dress up or dress down…
At the beach flip flops rule the day, but sometimes I want sandals that are…
